Competence for Second Generation Biofuels Based on Lignocellulose

Founded in August 2007, BUTALCO GmbH with headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, assesses and develops new production processes for second generation biofuels and biochemicals based on lignocellulose. The core technology based on genetically optimised yeasts enables increased yields in bioethanol production and the production of biobutanol.

Recently, BUTALCO secured its first round of external financing from Volkswind GmbH based in Ganderkesee (Lower Saxony), Germany. The funds will enable BUTALCO to strengthen its established research activities in Frankfurt, Germany.
